Like a lot of people my age who had just completed the Leaving Cert, I found myself thrust into college life without a clear of idea of exactly what I wanted to do. Unhappy with my course at NUI in Galway, I decided to head off to Bristol in 1998 to pick up some summer work and consider my options. I chose Bristol as my sister had moved there sometime previously, so I had a place to stay and a good chance of getting a job with her connections. One thing led to another, as they say, and having picked up work, I decided to extend my stay beyond the summer. Sometime later, I decided to enrol in college in Bristol to finish out my education. I then began work in Human Resources, but in 2010, decided to professionally pursue an area of social studies which I had a long-held interest in. This led to a complete career change and I am now a qualified counsellor working with people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. I love my work and consider myself lucky to have a job, which I am passionate about.

I have also been extremely lucky in love, and in 2013, I married my English boyfriend, Dave, who has been back to Ireland and Galway with me on a number of occasions and who loves the place. We are happy with our lives in Bristol and the city is wonderfully vibrant place to live. Summers here are filled with festivals and street performers, so it has a lot in common with Galway and is maybe the reason why I feel so at home here! I still have great memories of Galway and take regular trips back to catch up with friends and family. Having spent my youth in Galway, I feel privileged to have two places to call home!
