Dave O’Donnell is known to a generation of Galway clubbers for his DJing in Galway’s famous Central Park nightclub in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Having visited and fallen in love with San Francisco, Dave and his then girlfriend (now wife) decided to make the big move to the US in 1994.

I grew up in Old Mervue and attended ‘The Bish’ secondary school. After leaving cert, I continued my education in my hometown at Galway RTC (now GMIT). I DJ’d in Central Park on Upper Abbeygate Street, which was so much fun and gave me the opportunity to meet so many good people. In 1992, I met my now wife, Patricia, who is from Claregalway. Patricia was keen about moving to the US, so we applied for the visa lottery that was in place at that time. We were delighted to receive the news that our applications were successful and in 1994, we made the big move to the US. We picked San Francisco as I had really enjoyed the time I had spent there on holidays previously.

San Fran is a great place to live and work in and we enjoy a decent quality of life. We are completely settled and happy here now and we often refer to the city as being the Galway on the other west coast! Patricia is a qualified RN, and is currently working as a Hospice nurse. I have spent 15 years in IT, but I am now a General Contractor/Property Developer. We have twin daughters, Eva and Lauren, who are also very happy here. I am a big soccer guy and in my spare time coach with the SF Glens, a club with have a proud Irish heritage and who are partnered with Glasgow Celtic. I also try to hit a Titleist every now and then as well! Each year, we look forward to our trip back to Galway and meeting up with family members and the many friends we still have there.
